Thomas Cannon's brace helped Everton's Under-18s to a comprehensive victory over Rovers Under-18s on Saturday at The Toffees' Finch Farm training base.
Three goals towards the end of the first half are what did the damage for Rovers, with Bobby Carroll opening the scoring for the hosts on 38 minutes.
The midfielder was in the right place at the right time to capitalise on Jordan Eastham's spillage to lash into an empty net after the Rovers goalkeeper dropped a cross from the right into his path.
It was 2-0 just six minutes later when Cannon bagged his first of the game. The forward latched onto Rhys Hughes' excellent pass to send a pinpoint effort beyond the despairing dive of Eastham and into the bottom right-hand corner.
The third goal of the day arrived a moment later and it was Cannon again. This time he showed fine play to weave away from Jalil Saadi before confidently bending a curling shot beyond Eastham again and into the other corner to give The Toffees a commanding lead at the interval.
That was how the score remained until four minutes remaining when Sean McAllister added another goal for the Merseysiders, heading home from a cross from the left to give Eastham no chance.
Rovers kept going right until the end and managed to grab a late consolation at the death through the returning Luke Brennan.
A long punt upfield from Eastham wasn't dealt with by the home defence, Sam Burns nipped in and teed up Brennan who made no mistake from eight yards and ensure Rovers did get themselves on the scoresheet.
The result sees Rovers remain in 10th place in the Under-18 Premier League North table, whilst Everton rise to third following their victory.
