After a successful six months on loan from Hull City, Rovers boss Gary Bowyer wasted little time in making Cairney's move to Ewood Park a permanent one.

A popular member of the squad with both fans and players alike, the midfielder put pen-to-paper on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee in January 2014.
A former Scottish Under-21 international, Cairney joined Hull as a 16-year-old after being released by Leeds United in 2007 and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year the following season.
He featured on 14 occasions during the Tigers’ 2009-10 top flight campaign, including 14 appearances for Hull City as they were promoted to the Premier League in 2012-13.

A cultured left-footed midfielder with a keen eye for goal, his first year with Rovers was a huge success as his 40 appearances and 6 goals saw him win the supporters' Player of the Year for 2013-14.
