Rovers added experience to their ranks with the arrival of Leon Best from Newcastle United in the summer of 2012 on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Unfortunately for Best after a bright start to his first pre-season, the striker sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury that meant his first team Rovers debut didn't arrive until March 2013.
The frontman started his footballing career with Southampton before moving to Coventry City in 2007. His goalscoring exploits saw Newcastle United move for the Republic of Ireland international in January 2010, playing his part as the Magpies returned to the Premier League.
Best kicked off the 2013-14 with a goalscoring display against Derby County, and although he scored a second Rovers goal in an away win at AFC Bournemouth, he fell out of favour and joined fellow Championship club Sheffield Wednesday in the second half of the season, scoring five goals in 16 appearances.
