A central defender who is commanding in the air and strong on the ground. Ryan was the captain of the Academy side that reached both the finals of the FA Youth Cup and the Academy National League in the 2011-12 season.
Strong displays all year impressed many and that enabled Ryan to clinch a loan move to League Two side Rochdale for the first half of the 2012-13 campaign where he was a virtual ever-present for John Coleman's side.
Edwards returned to Rovers briefly before going back on loan with fellow League Two side Fleetwood Town for the remainder of the season.
