A defender who is equally comforable at left-back or in the centre of defence. Givet started his career with AS Monaco, spending ten seasons at the club from the principality before moving to Olympique Marseille in June 2007.
A French international with 13 caps to his name, Gael was signed initially on a six-month loan deal and quickly became an instant hit with fans and team-mates alike, the club having no hesitation in making his move to Ewood Park a permanent one at the end of the season 2008-09 with the Frenchman signing a four-year deal.
The 2009-10 season again saw Givet put in solid displays, his efforts being rewarded as he won the 'Player's Player of the Year' award.
