Rovers swooped to sign this highly-rated attacker from near-neighbours Accrington Stanley in December 2013.
Blackburn-born Mahoney, who was with the club as a youngster, burst onto the scene as a substitute in Stanley's Capital One Cup tie against Premier League side Cardiff City back in August 2013.
Since then Under-21s boss Eric Kinder has tracked the progress of the winger, eventually securing a deal to bring Mahoney back to Ewood.
On January 15 2014, at 16 years and 337 days, Mahoney became Rovers' third youngest player to make a senior appearance when he came on as a late substitute in the FA Cup replay against Manchester City at the Etihad.
His dream month continued when he made his international debut for England's Under-17s in a friendly against Belgium.
Able to play on either flank, the two-footed attacker has been one of the mainstays of the development squad this season.
