After a successful trial with the club, Jake completed a move from Derby County towards the end of the 2008/09 season.

Joined League One side Hartlepool United initially on a month long loan deal in September 2010, but the deal was subsequently extended on further occasions.

Signed a new long term contract with Rovers until the end of June 2014, and made his international debut at England under 20 level soon after in February 2011.

Made his first appearance for the senior squad in their pre-season match against Accrington Stanley and joined Rochdale on a loan on his return from the Barclays Asia Trophy. He'd go onto make 14 appearances for the League One club in a three-month spell.
