Rovers beat a number of clubs to the signature of this highly rated defender. Gavin has represented the Republic of Ireland at schoolboy levels and was part of the under 17 squad that reached the finals of the UEFA Under 17 championships in Turkey in May 2008.

A strong defender who is also good in the air, he scored his first Rovers goal in their 3-1 victory over Manchester City at the beginning of November 2007.

Indeed it went on to be a month to remember for the Irishman, after representing the Reserves in a friendly against Jersey, Gavin went onto make his Reserve league debut in Rovers' 4-2 win over Newcastle United later that month.

Signed his first pro-contract in January 2008, keeping him at the Ewood Park club until the summer of 2010.
