Rovers beat a number of clubs to the signature of this highly rated defender. Gavin has represented the Republic of Ireland at all levels up to under 19.
A strong defender who can play in the centre or on the left side of defence, Gavin, like fellow compatriat Aaron Doran, has quickly progressed through the Academy and the Reserves to be on the fringes of the first team, and travelled with Sam Allardyce's squad to Austria in July 2009 to their pre-season training camp, on their return to the UK he made his first senior apppearance in Rovers' 4-0 friendly win over Cambridge United.
Signed his first pro-contract in January 2008, and followed that up by signing a new deal in the summer of 2009 that sees him contracted until 2012.
Spent a month long spell with Tranmere Rovers in August 2009. Awarded squad number 29 in September 2009 and was part of the first team squad that faced Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup in the same month, and Aston Villa in the FA Cup in January.
January saw Gavin join Rotherham United on loan until the end of the 2010 season. |
