Rovers Reserves put in an impressive display to defeat Liverpool 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
At a drizzly Liverpool Academy, a Hugo Fernandez brace was followed by strikes from Josh Morris and Jordan Slew as Gary Bowyer's development squad registered their first win of the season.
Rovers set the tone straight from the off with both Nick Blackman and Josh Morris sending early dangerous balls into the area and it came as no surprise that it would be from a centre from the flank that the visitors would take the lead just past the quarter hour.
Good midfield play saw the ball switched right to Nick Blackman who took on his man and beat him, before getting to the byline and sending the ball across the area for Hugo Fernandez to apply the finishing touch.

Rovers continued to have the better of the chances, James Knowles and Blackman both going close with efforts. They'd end the first half in front but not before a further four goals were scored in a matter of minutes.
Liverpool were back on level terms on 38 when good work from Michael NGoo saw him find Nathan Eccleston to lash home, but Rovers went straight back into the lead when Fernandez capitalised on a goalkeeping error from Tyrell Belford to roll the ball into the empty net.
But straight from the restart Adam Henley fouled his man in the area and Ngoo converted the penalty.
The last act of the first half was for Rovers to regain the lead. Again it was a defensive error as the ball was cleared straight to Josh Morris and he advanced before firing low into the back of the net.

The second half saw Rovers start brightly once again, a superb cross from Nick Blackman deserved more but John O'Sullivan just couldn't connect. Moments later O'Sullivan tested the shaky Liverpool 'keeper from distance.
Liverpool had offered little as an attacking force, such was Rovers' dominance, but a 63rd minute pile-driver from distance rattled the crossbar. Stephen Samba unfortunate from fully 35 yards.
However on 70 minutes Rovers claimed a fourth goal their play richly deserved with another fine move. Hugo Fernandez sweeping the ball out to the left where Josh Morris used the forward run of Zac Aley as a decoy to send over a delightful cross that enabled Jordan Slew to score from close-range.

Jordan Slew adds Rovers' fourth |
Mendy headed against a post whilst Jake Kean held the ball well as Raheem Sterling shot on the turn, at the other end Jordan Slew almost grabbed his second but his shot was tipped aside.
A fifth goal wouldn't have flattered Rovers such was their impressive display, Gary Bowyer's side happy to win regardless.
