Reserves hit three

Posted on: Mon 12 Jul 2010

Rovers Reserves got their pre-season off to a winning start away at Vauxhall Motors on Saturday.

Iain Brunskill's side struck early with Zac Aley latching onto a cross from Callum O'Connor to head Rovers in front on 9 minutes.

Aley then turned provider for the second goal on 56 minutes when his centre was headed back across goal by Micah Evans for trialist Rodrigo Branco to apply the finishing touch.

Youngster Aley, signed from Southport earlier in the year, then laid on the third goal when just past the hour mark his pinpoint through ball saw Nick Blackman clear and he beat the Vauxhall Motors goalkeeper with a fine strike.

Reserve boss Brunskill was able to give some of the younger Academy players some match time with James Knowles, Toni Vastić and Jamie Maclaren getting their first taste at that level.

ROVERS: Brown (sub Kean 46 mins), Ramm, Flynn, Pearson (sub A. O'Connor 46 mins), Morris, C. O'Connor (sub Evans 46 mins), Lowe (sub Parry 68 mins), Potts (sub Knowles 76 mins), Aley (sub Vastić 76 mins), Blackman (sub Hitchcock 72 mins), Branco (sub Maclaren 59 mins).

The Reserves are back in action on Wednesday evening when they take on Kendal Town at the Lakeland Radio Stadium. Kick-off 7.45pm.
