Ewood E-Males: Nikola Kalinic

Posted on: Fri 26 Mar 2010

Hi Niko. Glad you have settled well at the club now. I am wondering if you could suggest to the manager to sign one player who is currently playing in Croatia, then who would it be? (Babak Golriz, Dubai)

Mario Ticinovic. He is a young player, who is currently playing at Hajduk Split. We played together at Hajduk and I think he could fit in well here.

Who is the liveliest player in the dressing room before a game? (Robin Sparkes, Blackburn)

No-one really stands out before a game, as we are all thinking and focused on the game ahead. But I think everyone knows that Dioufy is quite a character.

Niko, what is your preferred system, playing as a lone striker or in tandem with another forward? How different is playing in England to Croatia and are you in contact with the other Croatian players in the Premier League? (Brian Cook, Syracuse, New York)

It is the same to me - I can adapt to any manner of play. The Premier League is very different to the Croatian league, as the play is much faster. Yes I am in contact with other Croatian players over here. They have helped me settle in.

Who was your idol when you were growing up? (Eve Summersgill, Mellor)

Croatia's best ever player - Davor Suker.

Hi Niko. What is the best goal you have ever scored and why? (Johnathan Pilkington)

My first Premier League goal, against Wigan, because that was my first goal in the best league in the world.

If you were not a footballer what would you be and did you always want to play in the Premier League? (Yunus Kazi, Blackburn)

I would be a waiter, because that's what I did when I finished school. And yes, because it is the best league in the world and it is the dream of every young footballer to play in it.

Niko, have you found it easy to settle into the Premier League? (Elijah Shaw, Oswaldtwistle)

No, it wasn't easy. Everything is different than in Croatia. There are much better players and much harder games.

Niko. In training, who is the toughest and most difficult defender to play against? And if you could pick any defender from the Premier League to put in our team, who would it be? (Øyvind Monsen, Norway)

We have got a squad full of good players, so I wouldn't like to pick just one. If I could pick a defender from another Premier League team, I would probably choose Rio Ferdinand, because I like his style of play.

After a slow start to the campaign, you seem to have found your feet and scoring ability in England. Who has been the biggest influence on you since your move to Blackburn? (Mark Ashworth, Blackburn)

The players and the other people at the club, because they really helped me a lot when I first came.

Hi Niko. Rovers have had a number of star players make or revive their careers at Ewood in recent years, such as David Bentley, Roque Santa Cruz, Craig Bellamy and Benni McCarthy, though most moved on fairly quickly when the opportunity arose. Do you see yourself following in their footsteps if/when you become a top player here, or do you feel like Rovers have the potential to fulfil your personal goals as well? (Stoyan Zaimov, New York)

Wow, it is too early to think about that. For now, I am really happy at Rovers and I am really enjoying playing with this team.

Are you over here alone and where have you made your home? (Eve Summersgill, Mellor)

I am here with my girlfriend and we are living in Manchester.
