ENGLAND'S under 17 side crashed out of the UEFA Under 17s Championships after defeat to Italy.

The 1-0 defeat to the hosts meant that an early return to the UK for young Rovers striker Joe Garner, who ended the tournament England's top scorer with three goals.

A first half penalty from Andrea Russotto was the difference between the two sides, Joe Garner probably having the best chance for England when he struck the crossbar in the second half.

The defeat means an early exit for the home nation, whilst Italy and Turkey, who defeated Belarus 5-1 in the other Group A match, progress through to the semi finals.

In the other group, Holland and Croatia progressed.
