Hughes: We need three points at home |
MARK Hughes met the media this morning and is looking forward to the visit of Tottenham Hotspur to Ewood Park tomorrow.
"We are having a decent run," he said. "It was good to win and continue our progress with such a fine performance at Fulham.
"We are looking to have a good season and to achieve that, we have got to improve home results, not just from this season, but from way back.
"The team is playing well, there's a confidence about us and though Spurs have very good players and will present a tough challenge, as with every Premier League club, we can go into it expecting to do well.
"In Jermaine Defoe, they have got a player I enjoy watching. He is a fine striker who is making good progress in his career. He's one of those players who can manufacture a goal out of nothing. He is always a major threat."
Mark was asked about Jay Bothroyd, who returns to the squad tomorrow after serving a three match ban following dismissal at Norwich on November 6.
He said: "Jay is back in the fold this weekend. Jon Stead still needs a check and it may be a week early for him.
"Jay gives us another option. He was doing really well before his blip, but has responded well in training and is available for selection like a lot of others."
In Jay, does the manager discern a striker with similar qualities to himself?
Mark said: "Apart from the fact he is faster, fitter and stronger, I see a lot of similarities!"
And what would constitute a 'good season' from this point on?
"The club would see that as mid-table and upwards."
