NO HAPPY RETURN FOR HUGHES

Mark Hughes
We have to be more resolute - Hughes

MARK Hughes' return to Stamford Bridge wasn't a happy one as his side crashed to their second 4-0 defeat in seven days.

A week earlier a former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink inspired Middlesbrough condemned Rovers to defeat, this time it was Eidur Gudjohnsen to score a well taken hat-trick to leave Rovers still searching for their first points on the road this season.

"It's been a disappointing day to say the least," said Hughes after the game.

"For thirty-five minutes we did ok, we didn't allow Chelsea to create a great dealing the initial period.

"But at the moment we are finding it difficult to stop the goals going in once the initial goal is scored.

"At 1-0 we were very much still in the game, but we conceded the second goal in a very similar manner.

"It was always going to be very difficult to come back against a very good Chelsea side today.

"There are things we need to work on, we need to be more resolute defensively, we need to get that defensive base and work from there.

"The last two results have hurt us collectively and individually but we have to get over that.

"We are working hard on the training ground and we just need to transfer that work from the training ground onto the pitch on a Saturday afternoon, at the moment we are finding that very difficult to do.

"Defensively we need to be a lot better than we are at the moment and we will see our results improve.

"We need to be more difficult to beat, at the moment we are too easy to turn over."
