Djorkaeff in action against Rovers last season |
WORLD Cup winner Youri Djorkaeff has become Mark Hughes' first player signing as Rovers manager.
The experienced 36 year-old French international forward became a free agent when he failed to agree terms on a new contract with Bolton Wanderers this summer.
Since then, he has been training in the South of France and has made no secret of his desire to have another crack at the Barclays Premiership.
Youri has signed for Rovers until January, at that point both parties will assess the situation.
On making his first signing as Rovers manager, Hughes said: "He is exactly the sort of player we are looking for to make a difference."
A member of the successful French side which took glory at the 1998 World Cup and at Euro 2000, Youri has 82 French caps an has scored 28 international goals.
He has made over 500 senior appearances for several clubs, including Monaco, Paris St Germain, Inter Milan, Kaiserslautern and Bolton, and scored against Rovers both home and away last season.
Youri said: "I am missing playing in England and I feel I have a lot to offer to a club in the Premier League. I am a naturally fit person and I have been training hard in the south of France to keep fit. I feel I have another two good years left in me."
