FERGIE ON ROAD TO RECOVERY

Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004

Ferguson is making excellent progress

ROVERS midfielder Barry Ferguson's recovery from surgery is well ahead of schedule.

The Scottish captain sustained a major knee injury at St James' Park in December and his season looked to be over. However, Monday will see the former Glasgow Ranger head into the second phase of his recuperation.

Boss Graeme Souness said: "Barry's had five days off and he resumes next week to start running and kicking a football. At this rate he may return as soon as the first week in April, and if I know Fergie he'll want to get back as soon as possible.

"He's never experienced anything like this before and it has been frustrating for him as he just wants to play.

"I said I may leave him until next season however given the position we are in we'll need everyone available, unless we went on a winning run and then I may revert back to what I thought initially."
