DREAM ON, JONATHAN STEAD

Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004
THE dream goes on, for Jonathan Stead has become the latest Rovers' international!

Less than two weeks after making the transition from Division Three to the Premiership, and having played tin two games and scored twice, the former Huddersfield Town striker is in line to play for England.

Jonathan's meteoric rise to the top flight has now been crowned with a call-up to the England under 21 squad. And the Yorkshireman could be set to make his international debut close to home at the Kingston Communications Stadium, the headquarters of Hull City.

He has been named in David Platt's under 21 side as they prepare to face Holland under 21s in their first match of 2004 next Tuesday, February 17, kick off 8 pm.

The young gun said: "A letter arrived at the training ground and it's obviously a great thrill. All the lads are pleased for me. I'm having a good season and you always live in the hope of these things.

"Obviously, moving to Blackburn and the Premiership, plus getting a couple of goals has helped enormously."

Coach Platt commented: "The Dutch have fantastic pedigree and consistently produce outstanding individual players. We can expect a very difficult match and it will be excellent experience for some of the younger players we are looking to bring through."
