SCOTLAND CALLS FOR GALLY

Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004

Gallagher is set to make his senior bow for Scotland

ROVERS' teenage striker Paul Gallagher is one of four new names in Berti Vogts' Scotland squad to face Wales in Cardiff next Wednesday.

The Shadsworth Shapshooter is now in line to gain his first full Scottish cap. Vogts has been spotted several times at Ewood Park and is clearly impressed with Gally's progress.

Gally said this morning: "It's a fantastic feeling. I was told after training and it's amazing. I have been involved with the under 21s a few times but never started a game. I have come on a couple of times and I know Berti Vogts has been at our matches. It's just brilliant!"

Graeme Souness, a Scottish international legend in his own right, added: "Paul has come a long way very quickly.I'm very pleased for him. We believe he is young man with a great future."

Scotland have been rocked by injuries to key players, including their skipper, the Rovers' midfielder Barry Ferguson.

Gallagher has represented Scotland at under 21 level, but sparkling performances in the Premiership have thrust him to the forefront and he earns deserved recognition.
