Mahon moves on

ROVERS today confirmed that Alan Mahon has joined neighbours Wigan Athletic.

The 25 year-old Irishman completed the paperwork this morning and is in line to make his debut for the First Division side tomorrow at Ipswich Town, the club where he enjoyed a successful loan spell earlier in the season.

Mahon has signed for an initial undisclosed fee, with the possibility of further payments should Wigan achieve promotion to the Premiership.

The former Tranmere Rovers midfielder joined Rovers initially on loan in December 2000 and played an important part in Rovers push for promotion from Division One. He converted to a permanent deal in July 2001.

Unable to command a regular start in the Premiership, he has spent loan spells with Cardiff City and Ipswich Town.

He has made 39 appearances for Rovers in all competitions, including four this season.
