Rovers are interested in the American international

THE chase to land US striker Brian McBride is continuing, according to Graeme Souness.

The Ewood boss told the media this morning: "We have been considering Brian as a striking option for around six weeks.

"There have been discussions with his agent and John Williams is now trying to make a deal happen. It would be a loan arrangement, with a possible option to buy built into it."

McBride, 31, is a very experienced international striker, having played 67 times for the USA and scoring 20 goals. He hails from Arlington Heights, Illinois and is currently under contract with the MSL (Major Soccer League), plying his trade with Columbus Crew, the club where international team-mate Brad Friedel first came to prominence.

No stranger to the North West of England, McBride has spent time on loan at both Preston North End and Everton. A natural target-man, he made 17 league and cup appearances and notched five goals.

"Brian has done well at this level in the past - and got goals," said the Rovers' manager.

"He offers something a bit different to what we have at the club already, his type seems to fit the bill."
