Tuesday internationals

Posted on: Tue 07 Sep 2010

Rovers have six representatives on international duty this Tuesday evening.

Two players are involved in Euro 2012 qualifiers, one in an international friendly, and three in their final UEFA Under 21 qualifying matches.

The seniors on international duty are Morten Gamst Pedersen and Zurab Khizanisvhili. Pedersen is with the Norway squad is back in Oslo for their first home qualifier of the Euro 2012 process. They play Portugal looking to build on their opening win over Iceland.

Zurab Khizanishvili's Georgia picked up a useful away point in Greece in their first outing last Friday, this evening sees them at home against Israel in Tbilisi.

Then there's Brett Emerton and his Socceroo team-mates who are in Krakow for an international friendly in Poland.

At under 21 level, England play their final group match at Colchester tonight knowing that a win might not be enough to see them qualify for next summer's finals in Denmark.

Stuart Pearce's side are guaranteed to finish second behind Greece in Group 9, but their best hope is qualifying as one of four best second place finishers, so a healthy goal difference is required in their match against Lithuania if they are to stand a chance of reaching the finals.

Rovers duo Frank Fielding and Phil Jones are expected to pick up their 5th and 3rd caps respectively.

Sweden were given a scare last time out when they lost 2-1 at home to Israel, putting back confirmation of their qualification to the final match.

The Swedish under 21s are three points clear at the top of Group 6 with a healthy goal difference, and face bottom side Bulgaria in Lovech this evening needing just a point to receive confirmation of qualification.

Martin Olsson is expected to pick up his 24th cap at that level.
