Big Sam relishes Arsenal test

Posted on: Sat 28 Aug 2010

Boss Sam Allardyce can't wait to lock horns with his Arsenal counterpart this Saturday lunchtime.

The verbal battles between Sam and Arsene Wenger are almost as entertaining as the on field action between the two sides, but Allardyce knows that is just part and parcel of being a manager in the Barclays Premier League.

"I enjoy going head-to-head with any manager in the Premier League," said Sam ahead of the clash against the Gunners.

"Because I'm managing in the top league in the world it gets a little bit more exciting when it is one of the big boys.

"For many years we have pitted our wits against each other and when you've had some success over that time then you obviously remember how you did it.

"They are a tough tough team and a very talented team, and you try and put your way over to the players and if they take that onto the field of play then you've got the opportunity to get a result as we did last year.

"Early on last season we got a right good tonking at Arsenal 6-2 and when we played them in the last home game here we all remembered that day and how disappointed we were because we were in the lead twice.

"So we didn't want to be humiliated like that again and went out with a determination and a desire not to repeat that.

"This time around it is all about accumulating as many points as quickly as we can.

"We've already disappointed by throwing at least a point away at Birmingham City when it probably should have been three.

"So we've got to make that up and we want to make those points up in our next game if we possibly can.

"As tough as it might be, the lads have got the determination and desire to carry it out the right way to play against Arsenal and to give them a chance to win the game.

"At the end of the day we can play our best possible game and still come out with nothing because Arsenal are that talented."
