Sam eager for Ewood repeat

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

Sam Allardyce is keen for Rovers to maintain their Ewood form when Arsenal are the visitors on Saturday lunchtime - kick-off 12.45pm.

Rovers lost just three times on home soil in the league last season, and after starting the new campaign at Ewood with a win in the league over Everton and a win in the Carling Cup over Norwich City, Sam wants Rovers to make it three from three against last season's third place side.

"I was delighted with the performance on Tuesday night and of course against Everton.

"Psychologically we feel very good when we play at home, the players come in and feel very buoyant and I need to keep that feeling going as long as possible.

"It has been going for the best part of two years now. Ever since I came here even though we were in the doldrums and in the bottom three we were always very competitive and capable of picking up points at home.

"Overall I've lost about five home games during my time at Ewood Park and that is a record we want to keep and we want to improve on."

One thing that has disappointed the Rovers boss was the defeat at Birmingham in their last league outing.

Rovers were dominant for long periods in the game, but those old frailties returned to deny them any points.

And whilst Sam has seen plenty of progress in the squad, it is their travel sickness that needs curing.

"I was bitterly disappointed last week because that progress should be continuing in terms of results," added Sam.

"We threw it away, we threw an opportunity away which has concerned me all week about our unprofessionalism on not gaining any points away from home when we were in control of a football match.

"Obviously we've got our Ewood Park record that we are very proud of and we want to continue that.

"But I thought we had made greater strides and then all of a sudden I got kicked up the backside by what we did last week and that shows that you can't ever give up on telling your players how to do the right things in the right areas and constantly getting onto them about continuing to do those things no matter where you are playing.

"If you do that then you get the results if you don't you can end up slipping up."

Tickets for the match will be on sale right up until the 12.45pm kick-off, but they can be purchased in advanced from the Roverstore at Ewood Park or in the town centre.
