Dunn back for Gunners clash

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

Rovers welcome back David Dunn for Saturday's visit of Arsenal to Ewood Park.

The influential Rover hasn't featured for his boyhood club since limping out of the season opener against Everton a fortnight go with a groin injury.

But Dunn returned to training earlier this week and provided he comes through Friday's final training session he leaves manager Sam Allardyce with the decision of whether to put the playmaker straight back into the starting eleven.

Speaking this Friday morning, the Rovers boss said: "David Dunn has been training for the last few days so will join up with the squad.

"Whether he starts will be a decision that I'll make when we've assessed him after today's training."

Gael Givet should be fit to resume his place at left back despite needing dental surgery in the wake of Tuesday's Carling Cup win over Norwich City.

The Frenchman had to come off after a clash of heads with team-mate Amine Linganzi.

"Gael is not too bad, he's looking okay," added Sam. "He's had some dental work on the tooth he nearly lost and I'm sure his type will be looking forward to the game.

"It'll be slightly uncomfortable if he got another knock on it but that won't bother him too much.

"Grella and Chimbonda came through Tuesday's game alright and will be in the squad for selection. There's just Andrews absent."

One other selection dilemma for the Rovers boss will be whether to include striker Mame Biram Diouf from the start.

The Senegal youngster marked his first start in a Rovers shirt with an impressive hat-trick in Tuesday's win over Norwich City, putting him right in contention to face the Gunners.

"Mame has a chance, we'll make the decision today and see which team we think will firstly cope with Arsenal's outstanding ability and then who is the best to expose Arsenal's weaknesses."

The manager will select from: Robinson, Bunn, Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet, EH Diouf, Nzonzi, Jones, Pedersen, Olsson, Kalinic, Jacobsen, Chimbonda, Emerton, Dunn, Grella, Linganzi, Hoilett, MB Diouf.
