Boss sorry for Bunn

Posted on: Thu 26 Aug 2010

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce was disappointed that Mark Bunn didn't get the clean sheet his impressive display deserved.

The 25-year-old stopper made his first Ewood Park start in Rovers' 3-1 win over Norwich City in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup, putting in an eye-catching display, particularly with an outstanding save with just two mintes remaining.

However from the resulting corner kick poor marking allowed Norwich defender Jens Berthel Askou to head a consolation for the Championship side, upsetting Sam Allardyce in the process.

"The save at the end was a top top top class save," Allardyce told Radio Rovers.

"The Norwich player smashes the ball from close range, and he palms it past the far post by about six feet for a corner.

"But he then gets let down badly by his team mates, I know it didn't affect the result, but when you get such a great save like that the last thing you do is then let a goal in from that particular corner.

"All of the rest of his game was comfortable and I think that he got the basics right, his handling, his distribution, his covering of the defence and then finally that save made him look very comfortable."

Rovers are back in action at Ewood Park on Saturday in the 12:45pm kick-off against Arsenal. Tickets are on open sale, full details can be found here.
