Samba is new skipper

Posted on: Sat 14 Aug 2010

Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Chris Samba will be Rovers' new team captain.

The giant defender took over the duties from Ryan Nelsen towards the back end of last season, as Rovers ended the campaign with just one defeat from their last nine league games.

However, Ryan will continue with his role off the pitch.

Asked who will wear the armband this season, Big Sam said: "It's probably going to be Chris Samba and Ryan's going to take the club captaincy role on.

"Chris enjoyed the role at the back end of last season and Ryan's very comfortable with that."
