Rovers stars on duty

Posted on: Wed 11 Aug 2010

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce will be keeping his fingers crossed that his contingent of international stars come through tonight's fixtures unscathed.

No fewer than eight Rovers players have joined up with their countries ahead of Saturday's big kick-off against Everton.

Keith Andrews has been named in the starting line-up for the Republic of Ireland's glamour friendly against Argentina.

The game is the first international to take place at the new Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Frank Fielding will hope his dream 24 hours continues when he arrives at Wembley for England's clash with Hungary.

The 22-year-old keeper, who made his full debut for the Under-21s last night, is expected to start on the bench behind Joe Hart this evening.

Martin Olsson will be hoping to stake a further claim as a senior Swedish international when they take on Scotland in Stockholm.

The young winger scored twice on his debut against Bosnia-Herzegovina in May.

Scandinavian duo Morten Gamst Pedersen and Lars Jacobsen will be hoping to get more match practice under their belts when Norway and Denmark take on France and Germany respectively.

Jason Brown is in the Wales squad for tonight's game against Luxembourg, while Zurab Khizanishvili's Georgia travel to Moldova.

At Under-21 level, Steven Nzonzi is in the French squad for tonight's crucial European Championship qualifier against Belgium.

The two sides are currently tied on 11 points, but victory for France would see them go level at the top of Group 8 with Ukraine.

Chris Samba, Brett Emerton and Nikola Kalinic have not joined up with Congo, Australia and the Croatia Under-21s respectively.
