Robbo retires from international football

Posted on: Sun 08 Aug 2010

Rovers' keeper Paul Robinson has decided to retire from international football.

Robinson's decision comes ahead of Rovers' friendly at Celtic this afternoon and follows his inclusion in the England squad for the upcoming friendly with Hungary later this week.

Robinson said: "I have taken the decision to retire from international football with immediate effect.

"Only now have I been able to make this decision as previously I haven't been in contention or selected for the squad.

"As a professional who wants every chance to play football, I do not see myself as a number 3/4 goalkeeper and find that role very frustrating.

"I haven't had the opportunity of being anything other than this in recent years therefore, I feel it in the best interest of myself and Blackburn Rovers that I concentrate solely on my club football. I wish the England team every success."
