Strong squad for Scotland

Posted on: Fri 06 Aug 2010

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce will be looking for as many of his senior stars to get 90 minutes under their belts in the Scottish double-header this weekend.

The manager has virtually a full complement of players to choose from for Saturday's game against Hearts and Sunday's clash with Celtic.

Rovers' four representatives in South Africa - Ryan Nelsen, Brett Emerton, Vince Grella and Lars Jacobsen - are still short of match sharpness, whilst Chris Samba and Nikola Kalinic have just returned to training following injury.

"The players that were away at the World Cup have still got a bit of catching up to do, but they're well on their way with the quality of the games we had out in Australia," said Sam.

"We've got two back-to-back games with a squad that's pretty big and pretty strong at the moment - and we've got to look at lots of the players getting 90 minutes or as close to 90 minutes as we possibly can.

"Chris Samba and Niko Kalinic are the ones that have been the big concern, because they haven't played any pre-season friendlies, apart from behind closed doors on Wednesday against Wigan.

"They both came through okay, so they'll be needing the 90 minutes more than most, as will Ryan, Vince and Brett, because all the other lads have been playing the games as the pre-season has gone on."
