Nzonzi has high hopes

Posted on: Thu 05 Aug 2010

Steven Nzonzi is setting his sights even higher after signing a new five-year deal with the club.

The giant midfielder was Rovers' star performer last term, as Sam Allardyce's side secured a top-half finish.

But the French starlet, who was named Rovers' Player of the Year for 2009-10, hopes to make an even bigger impact in the Premier League this time around.

Speaking exclusively to Rovers Player, he said: "I'm very pleased to sign this contract.

"Last season was good for the team and it was good for me, because I played a lot of games.

"Now, I have to work hard and try to improve. I haven't set myself any targets, I just want to do my best and hopefully I will play well.

"I hope that the next season will be good for the team and good for myself."

A late flourish saw Rovers end the 2009-10 campaign in 10th place and Steven insits that the club can more than match their efforts from his debut season in English football.

"I think so," he added. "We can do that again - and maybe more - why not? You always have to think that you can do better than you did."
