Report: Fleetwood Town 0 Rovers 2
A GOAL in each half from Jason Roberts and Steven Nzonzi earned Rovers a comfortable win from a solid pre-season workout against Blue Square Premier newcomers Fleetwood Town.
Rovers started brightly and had a chance in the opening minute when Martin Olsson did well to create space for a cross from the left and Jackson Ramm headed over the bar.
Within seven minutes, Rovers were ahead as Keith Andrews passed out to Ramm on the right and his cross was met at the near post by Roberts who headed low across goal into the bottom left-hand corner.
Soon after, a header by Grant Hanley was saved by Fleetwood keeper Danny Hurst, who was called on throughout the half to make a number of impressive stops as Rovers looked good value for their lead.
Nick Blackman was left particularly frustrated as Hurst showed fine form to block worthy efforts from him on three occasions in the first half.
Andrews, who looked sharp in central midfield, also saw a low shot thwarted by Hurst.
Fleetwood's best effort of the opening half came when former Blackpool striker Lee Thorpe headed wide of the target from a free kick on the left but Paul Robinson in the Rovers was rarely troubled before the break.
The home side looked lively after the break, with veteran former Rover Alan Wright in good form, but Robinson, Phil Jones and Grant Hanley continued to look in command and there were no real openings for an equaliser.
Rovers' first chance of adding to their tally after the break came on 63 minutes when Andrews shot over from 20 yards and within seconds, the Irishman had taken over the captain's armband, as Robinson was replaced by substitute keeper Frank Fielding.
There were few chances of note at either end before Rovers made the game safe when Nzonzi headed their second six minutes from time from a corner on the left by Junior Hoilett.
Two minutes from the end, Blackman shot wide from a good position after being put clear by a good pass from Olsson.
