Kids are R-over the moon!

Posted on: Thu 20 May 2010

Rovers' striker Jason Roberts was the star attraction as he teamed up with a group of local youngsters for a coaching masterclass at Ewood Park.

Places for PlayersThe participants, who engage on the Street Soccer and Midnight League courses run by the club's Community Trust, had been chosen to take part on account of their good behaviour.

The group were provided with their own Rovers' kit in the home dressing room, before being put through their paces by reserve team manager Iain Brunskill out on the pitch.

Jason, who delivers football programmes to young people in the UK and Grenada through the Jason Roberts Foundation, watched the session and was impressed with the talent on show.

He said: "There's a national shortage of talented young players coming through the ranks and making it in the professional game, so opportunities like this, that provide kids with a platform to showcase their skills in an enjoyable environment, should be actively encouraged."

The 'Places for Players' event was organised in conjunction with the Community Safety Partnership, who recently benefited from a legacy donation of £20,000 from the Premier League.

Places for Players is part of Creating Chances, the umbrella brand for all of the good cause work that the Premier League delivers in communities both in the UK and across the world.
