PHIL JONES can be the new John Terry, according to Rovers' Spanish defender Michel Salgado.

The former Real Madrid star has been impressed with the performances of top teenage prospect Jones since youngster came into the Rovers' side - and tips him for a big future in the game.

"He is a great player and a great centre back - probably as he grows up he can be the next John Terry for sure," said Salgado.

"Next season he is going to be more confident, he'll feel like a real senior player and it is important for him and for us that we can count on him. He'll be an important player.

"It is rare for a young player to come in and perform like a proven player. He has played maybe 10 games but he has proved that he is ready to play with us."
