Sam: We'll wait and see over Dunn

Posted on: Thu 25 Mar 2010

ROVERS boss Sam Allardyce won't risk David Dunn for Sunday's derby against Burnley if the match winner against Birmingham isn't fit.

After scoring twice to seal another home win, Dunn had to leave the field early after rash challenges first from Stephen Carr and then Barry Ferguson left him unable to continue.

"Whether Dunny is okay or not we'll wait and see," admitted Allardyce.

"He'll tell me he's alright but that won't mean anything. Me and the medical staff will make the decision because we don't want him to go in there fatigued and come out with any sort of injury.

"So we'll have a good assessment between now and Sunday and if need be we'll rest him and put him on the bench."

The Rovers manager was unhappy that referee Mark Clattenburg didn't give Dunn more protection, when, as their chief tormentor, Dunn was subject to several robust challenges.

"I was disappointed that Mark Clattenburg didn't protect him that little bit more," added Allardyce.

"It is easy to give the little free-kicks here and there, but at the end Barry Ferguson just blatantly kicked him. I've never seen anything so blatant and he just ignored him, he didn't even get his yellow card out.

"That is disappointing from somebody who I've got a last of respect for as a referee, to ignore that is not right.

"We had to bring Dunny off then."
