Speedie brings the house down!

Posted on: Fri 19 Mar 2010

He may have been with us for no more than a single season, but David Speedie remains a hugely popular hero amongst Rovers fans - and last night in Blues he didn't let them down!

Two and a half hours flew past as the audience were mightily entertained by David's stories of his time with Rovers and much more besides.

The event was hosted by BBC Radio Lancashire's Andy Bayes and was another in a series of 'audiences with...' Rovers' heroes of the past and present. The nights are aimed at raising the profile of the recently formed Former Players' Association - as well as providing a fantastically entertaining - and great value - night out.

David delighted the crowd with his no-holds-barred opinions and reminiscences and at the end of the night seemed genuinely humbled by the welcome he was given back at Ewood.

One of the audience, season ticket holder Tracy Nuttall, said, "you can't beat these evenings, just a fiver to get in with a free pint and pie thrown in. And David should really be on stage with a performance like that!"

Audio from the previous event with Matt Jansen and Garry Flitcroft is available from the BBC Lancashire website here.

Watch out for news of the next one!
