BIG Sam was delighted with the opportunity to give new signings Yildiray Basturk and Amine Linganzi some vital match practice in a 1-0 friendly win for the reserves at Fleetwood on Monday.

Vince Grella and Lars Jacobson, both on their way back from injury, also featured in a game which was decided by a goal from Aaron Doran 18 minutes from time.

"It was a good game - my old mate Micky Mellon who is the manager there looks to be doing a great job," said the boss.

"We needed a competitive game for some of the players who are coming back from injury and some of the players who have joined us in the (transfer) window.

"Yili (Basturk) and Ame (Linganzi) played so it was good to see them. We got Vince (Grella) in there and Lars (Jacobsen) so they are coming back closer to competing for a place back in the team."
