We should be higher up the table

Posted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010

AS Rovers prepare to take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, manager Sam Allardyce has called on his side to get the goals their recent play has deserved.

Rovers frustratingly drew a blank at West Ham United last time out despite dominating the game for long periods and creating several excellent chances.

And on the eve of the game against Tony Pulis' side, Sam wants the squad to rediscover their goalscoring touch and claim the points to move higher up the league table.

"Our scoring of goals on chances created, and West Ham was the perfect example, is the reason why we are not now sat in the top eight or better," said the Rovers manager.

"That is the reason we aren't up there because our chances created to goals scored is far far too low.

"So whilst we are sat in a reasonable position in the league it could have been a lot lot better.

"Particularly away from home, West Ham, Sunderland, Hull City and Wigan away, are all coming back to haunt us.

"Yes we got points at all but one of those places but it should be three wins and a draw, not three draws and a defeat.

"But hopefully we'll get the finishing side right on Saturday as it makes life so difficult for us all if we don't put our chances away when we create them.

"If we could just grit our teeth and produce that bit more quality in front of goal then we'll continue on this undefeated run and put more wins together than draws."
