Morten makes his mark

Posted on: Thu 28 Jan 2010

Sam Allardyce was full of praise after the man of the match performance from Morten Gamst Pedersen in the 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Wednesday night.

The Norwegian international netted a stunning strike to set Rovers on their way to victory, his fifth goal of the season and impressed with his all round game.

And the Rovers boss believes the improved displays from the midfielder are down in part to a change in position for the 29-year-old.

"We've moved him in one. I think that is the key," said Allardyce on Radio Rovers after the game.

"I think moving him into midfield on a narrow angle rather on the wide has helped the team and helped him to produce his best.

"He doesn't quite need as much pace in there as you do on the outside.

"That has helped him enormously and he's getting a lot more possession and getting himself in the game a lot more and he's got a lovely left foot and against Wigan we saw it at its very very best because that was not an easy shot to score with."

After his third consecutive league goal, Sam will be hoping that Morten makes it four in four against West Ham United on Saturday.
