SAM Allardyce hailed his side's never say die spirit as they picked up another valuable three points at home.

Goals from Morten Gamst Pedersen and Niko Kalinić saw Rovers defeat Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park to see Rovers move up to 11th in the league table and some seven points away from the dreaded drop-zone.

"At the start of the game we were really dominant and really showed how well we can play," said Allardyce on Radio Rovers after the game.

"Then the scrappy bit comes and we had our worst spell of the game just after half-time, we don't get the second and they score.

"We then had to be patient and Morten comes up with his header, his goal was fantastic anyway, but he rose at the far post and it hits the bar, so I was wondering if it was going to be one of those days.

"But the lads kept kept going, kept plugging away, got the goal off a corner and really should have finished it off at the death to make it 3-1 and to settle my nerves and everyone else's.

"We've seen it though, yes it got a bit scrappy, but we are playing on a difficult surface because we've had to train on it a lot and the weather has taken its toll on it.

"But we stuck at it, came back with a vengeance and then we've won the game, so that is back-to-back wins, both at home.

"We are mid-table now and looking up now hopefully."
