The lure of Wembley

Posted on: Wed 20 Jan 2010
PAUL Robinson admits that lifting the League Cup trophy with Tottenham is the current highlight of his club career.

Robbo played a pivotal role in Spurs' 2008 Wembley win over Chelsea and the England keeper has his sights set on a second success, should Rovers overcome Aston Villa tonight.

"It is possibly the highlight of my career - getting to Wembley and lifting a trophy," said the 30-year-old stopper.

"You watch the FA Cup and League Cup finals as a kid and you always dream of climbing those steps at Wembley.

"So to do it as a winner is fantastic.

"So for us now to get to Wembley and to have a chance of lifting a trophy would be a phenomenal achievement for us.

"I don't think you can ever play down playing at Wembley and lifting a major trophy.

"The whole occasion of getting to Wembley is great, but to lift the trophy is something nobody can take away from you. It stays with you for the rest of your life. That is what we are in the game for."

Tickets for the match go off sale on Wednesday at Ewood Park at 2pm and 12 noon in The Mall, Tickets are on sale at Villa Park from the Doug Ellis Ticket Office.
