Counting the cost

Posted on: Tue 12 Jan 2010

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce was left counting the cost of not only a heavy league defeat on Monday evening, but the possibility of an increasing injury list.

Already without Jason Roberts and Vince Grella with knee and thigh injuries respectively, their problems were then compounded by Benni McCarthy having a back spasm in the warm-up and having to withdraw.

Then with almost the last kick of the game a clash of heads between Gaël Givet and Steven Nzonzi saw neither player finish the match.

But wether the injuries are serious enough to force them to miss Thursday's Carling Cup semi-final 1st leg at Ewood Park against Aston Villa remains to be seen.

"Jason has a bit of a knee problem and Benni had a back spasm in the warm-up," said manager Sam Allardyce.

"I think Steven has knocked a tooth out and Gaël has cut his head.

"They are a little bit dazed and a little bit worse for wear but not serious enough to mean that there were any of them unconscious or knocked out."

Tickets for Thursday's Carling Cup semi-final 1st leg at Ewood Park are on open sale right up until the 8.00pm kick-off.

Tickets are priced from just £15 for Adults and £5 concessions. Call the ticket office on 0871 222 1444 for further details.
