Sam aims for psychological edge

Posted on: Fri 01 Jan 2010

Boss Sam Allardyce is looking for a cup win to provide a boost for the other domestic cup competition.

Rovers take on Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday, and whilst he readily admits that Tuesday's Carling Cup semi-final against the same opponents takes priority, a win at the weekend could give them the psychological edge ahead of the two-legged tie.

"Certainly the priority this month is the semi-final of the Carling Cup, there's no danger about that," admitted Allardyce.

"To come this far, to put all the effort in that we have, particularly the outstanding victory against Chelsea, the top team at the moment, means we've got a hugely difficult tie against Aston Villa in two semi-finals.

"But before that we've got a tie against Aston Villa in the third round of the cup.

"Tactically from a manager's point of view you have to be looking at it saying, can we psyche each other out and what can we do to best prepare our players for these games.

"That is what we'll try to do on Saturday and if we can get a bonus by coming away from Villa with a result, then that will give us a lot of confidence going into the game on Tuesday then.

"So it is a big few days for all the players and hopefully at the end of it we are on a roll and looking up and excited about the next few games."

Tickets for Rovers' Carling Cup semi-final 1st leg at Ewood Park are on open sale. Prices are from just £15 for Adults and £5 Concessions. Book online at www.onerovers.co.uk. Further details available here.
