Jason Roberts has spoken of his surprise, shock and pride at being awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List announced today.

The 31-year-old centre forward was given the award for his charitable work through his Jason Roberts Foundation that operates both in the UK and the Caribbean.

Talking exclusively to Rovers Player, Roberts said: "I'm very humbled by the award really. I think it is in recognition of all the hard work that other people have put into the charity as well as myself, so yes I'm very humbled by the award.

"I started the Jason Roberts Foundation and the award is in recognition of the work done in the UK and in Grenada.

"It was a total surprise, you just don't expect something like that to happen, you don't what you do to get recognition in that way.

"Anything I've done for the Jason Roberts Foundation I've done for the kids, and for the projects we believe in.

"To get this is recognition for all the hard work done by a lot of people, not just myself, and also all the other footballers who get involved in charity work and giving their time for things that don't get acknowledged."
