Brett to return for Ewood clash?

Posted on: Sun 27 Dec 2009

Rovers could be boosted by the return of Brett Emerton when they face Sunderland on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Australian international almost made Saturday's draw with Wigan Athletic after recovering quickly from a groin injury, and could be set to return against Steve Bruce's Black Cats.

But whilst the news on Emerton is welcome, David Dunn is still a week away from a return.

"Brett only just missed out against Wigan with his groin," revealed manager Sam Allardyce. "He had a fitness test but just felt it a little bit. So he could be okay for Monday.

"Dunny is back in training in terms of starting football work with the physios, but I think Monday will be too early but not too far away now.

"Vince will be out for a few more weeks yet."

No other players have reported any injuries in the aftermath of Saturday's draw at the DW Stadium, therefore Allardyce will select from Robinson, Chimbonda, Jacobsen, Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Salgado, Pedersen, Andrews, Nzonzi, Hoilett, McCarthy, Di Santo, Roberts, Brown, Diouf, Kalinić, Jones, Emerton, Olsson, van Heerden.

Tickets for Monday's game are on open sale right up until the 3.00pm kick-off.
