Spurs can break the monopoly

Posted on: Sat 19 Dec 2009

Paul Robinson has tipped his former club to break the top four stranglehold this season.

Wednesday night's 3-0 win over Manchester City saw Harry Redknapp's Tottenham side consolidate fifth place in the Barclays Premier League and the Rovers goalkeeper feels that the London club are finally living up to their top billing.

Robinson thinks there'll be a battle between two 'outsiders' for a coveted Champions League position this season, with the England international also tipping Rovers' Carling Cup semi-final opponents Aston Villa to be riding high come the shake-up at the end of the 2009-10 campaign.

"It looks like Tottenham are fulfilling their potential this season, it looks like the manager is doing a good job," said Robinson ahead of this afternoon's encounter.

"They've got a great chance of breaking into the top four and the result on Wednesday against Manchester City showed that.

"They've got a good team, a good squad and it will be a very difficult game for us.

"I think Tottenham and maybe Aston Villa can do it, if you look at the way they've started they've both given themselves a great platform to build on.

"It is about consistency now, if they can continue the form and keep picking up the results there is no reason why not.

"But they can start doing that after this weekend."
