Assistant manager Neil McDonald felt it was an opportunity missed as Rovers slipped to a 3-0 away defeat at Fulham.
Rovers were camped in the home side's half for the majority of the first half, but Erik Nevland's goal a minute before the break was like a "knife to the back" for McDonald.
As they looked for a way back into the game in the second half, Rovers were caught on two further occasions to give the scoreline a lopsided look.
"The most disappointing thing is we feel we've had a decent enough performance but we've got beat 3-0," said McDonald. "I don't think we deserved to get beat 3-0.
"It is like a knife into your back when they score the goal because they've only had the one chance.
"They've had one chance and they are the home team with a very good home record.
"The second half they play a little bit of football because we are chasing the game to a certain extent and they've took their goals at the right time to kill the game off.
"We worked hard on retaining possession and trying to get the ball forward and create chances but we didn't have that killer instinct tonight.
"We didn't quite have that cutting edge, and didn't create as many chances as I thought that we might because of the play that we had.
"It was a lost chance because of the goals we've conceded. If we had defended a little better we might have got something out of the game.
"We came here to get something out of the game and we haven't done it.
