Zura sees red

Posted on: Mon 26 Oct 2009

ZURAB Khizanishvili was sent off for Newcastle United on Saturday against Doncaster Rovers.

Drawing 1-1 at the time, the Georgian captain was given his marching orders when attempting to break up a scuffle.

Despite being a man light, Newcastle grabbed a winner three minutes from time thanks to Kevin Nolan.

The game of the day was at Bramall Lane, but Sheffield United once again were on the losing side by the odd goal in seven.

After a poor run of recent results, Mark Bunn was dropped to the bench, but Keith Treacy returned to the starting line-up for the Blades.

The Irishman played the full ninety minutes in the 4-3 defeat.

On the South Coast Plymouth Argyle faced fellow strugglers Ipswich Town at Home Park. Alan Judge played the full match for the Pilgrims as the game ended in an unsatisfactory result for either side, a 1-1 draw.

Further to the East, Oldham Athletic picked up a useful 2-0 away win at Brighton.

Restored to central midfield, Alex Marrow played the full match for Dave Penney's side, whilst Nick Blackman came on with six minutes to go.

For MK Dons Aaron Doran had to settle for a place on the bench as Paul Ince's side lost 3-1 at Southampton.

The winger came on at the start of the second half.

In the last match of his month-long loan spell with Leeds United, Frank Fielding was once again an unused substitute in Leeds's 2-1 defeat at Millwall.

The final FA Cup qualifying stages took part at the weekend, with defender Johnny Flynn in action for Chester City.

The Northern Ireland under 21 international grabbed the opening goal of the game against Barrow, but the Bluebirds levelled to take it to a replay on Tuesday.

The winners of the tie would be home to Eastleigh in the 1st round of the competition.
