Away trip beckons for Rovers

Rovers have been given a tricky away tie against Gillingham in the second round of the Carling Cup.

Mark Stimson's League One side defeated Championship Plymouth Argle in the first round of the competition with their reward a home tie against the Rovers.

The last time Rovers visited the Priestfield Stadium was back in May 2001 in what was a memorable week for the club as they had clinched promotion to the Premier League the previous Wednesday against Preston North End.

That meant the game had little meaning with Rovers and Gillingham playing out a 1-1 draw. Nathan Blake with an early goal for Rovers, but Marlon King leveled from the spot for the Gills.

The two teams have met in the League Cup before, Goals from Duncan McKenzie and Kevin Stonehouse seeing Rovers win  2-1 at the Priestfield after they were held to a goalless draw at Ewood in the first leg,
