With the 2009-10 season now a few days away, Stephen Warnock has stressed the importance of getting off to a good start.

Rovers won just three of their opening 17 league games last term and the former Liverpool left-back hopes the team can lay the foundations for a successful season by picking up plenty of points early on.

"It's always important to get points on the board as early as possible," said Stephen.

"I think we've got a period in October when we play three of the top four, so you need to get points on the board as early as possible.

"We know that if we want to push for Europe, we want to win as many games as possible and be up there as early as we win - and then hopefully sustain it."
