Phil Jones in action against Rangers |
Rovers Reserves and the Academy under 18s were both on the winning side as both teams face Rangers in Glasgow on Saturday afternoon.
The morning match saw Iain Brunskill's side take on their Reserve team counterparts with Rovers winning 2-1.
Marcus Marshall got Rovers off to the perfect start with a goal after just a minute, his third strike in as many games this pre-season.
He then had a hand in Rovers' second six minutes later, threading the ball onto
Nick Blackman who doubled the lead for the Lancashire side.
Rangers hit back from a quickly taken free-kick after
Frank Fielding was harshly adjudged to have handled outside the area, but Rovers were dominant throughout and should have added further goals.
Following on from the Reserve match, the Academy took centre stage, and the Rovers under 18s also took the honours with a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
Grant Hanley powered Rovers in front on 15 minutes, heading home a
Josh Morris corner. Then Morris doubled the lead on the stroke of half time with a sensational 25 yard effort.
Gary Bowyer's young side should have added more goals to their tally, a third goal on the hour by a trialist, the only strike to show for their dominance.
The Reserves are back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Leigh Sports Village to take on Leigh Genesis. Tickets are on sale from the Leigh Sports Village ticket office on the day of the game. These are priced at £6 for Adults, £4 for over 65s and full time students with ID, whilst Juniors under 18 can see the match for £2.
The Academy are at the Abbey Stadium, Cambridge on Friday evening.
